India's space aspirations received a significant boost in August when it achieved the distinction of being the first nation to successfully land a spacecraft near the previously uncharted south pole of the moon. This achievement came just days after a Russian mission aiming for a similar landing ended in failure. Overall, India's accomplishment marked the fourth successful soft landing on the moon.

New Delhi: India has set its sights on lunar exploration, with plans to send an astronaut to the moon by 2040 and establish a space station by 2035, as directed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India's space endeavors received a significant boost when it accomplished a historic soft landing near the moon's uncharted south pole in August. This achievement marked the country as the fourth in the world to achieve such a feat, just days after a Russian mission to do the same ended in failure.

Following this milestone, India proceeded to launch a solar observation mission and is scheduled to conduct a crewed space mission test in the coming week.

"In pursuit of these ambitious objectives, the Prime Minister has directed the development of 'Bharatiya Antariksha Station' (Indian Space Station) by 2035 and the mission to land the first Indian on the moon by 2040," the government stated. To bring this vision to reality, the Department of Space will formulate a detailed roadmap for lunar exploration.

In addition to lunar missions, PM Modi has encouraged scientists to explore missions to Venus and Mars.
